I am totally confused right now regarding vehicle registrations. I have ordered this ebike but I have not received it till now. Here are the features of this bike:

1) Power: 750 W – 1000W

2) Speed: Max 25km/h but it can be unlocked and go upto 45 km/h

3) Weight of bike: 45 kg which includes two batteries mounted on it.

I am sure motor insurance that I need it but unsure about trafficom regulations such vehicle registeration and vehicle tax etc. Can anyone please help me with it?

  1. Strictly speaking, that’s a moped and not a road legal one. Mopeds require type certification, insurance and registration. If, theoretically, it were locked to 25kmh and not unlockable by the user (kind of a legal gray area in your case), it’s an L1e-A motorized bicycle and requires insurance, as opposed to a motor-assisted bicycle, which can have up to 250W and can only engage when pedaling and doesn’t require insurance.

  2. Don’t bother unless you live in a city. No one cares about your insurance or registration for these toys outside of cities.
