  5. Reddit and Instagram and I use both waay too much. I have to actively put away my phone when I eat or drink and it annoys me to no end.

  10. Very very rarely i have a customer that doesn’t have whatsapp. I think people just don’t realize that they are using social media.

I don’t use Facebook, still have account as it’s my only link to old family members abroad, I’m getting close to deleting my Instagram account, refuse to open a TikTok or Threads account, use Twitter but close to deleting since Musk destroyed it. WhatsApp is the only one I’ll definitely keep, keep in touch with friends and family, organise meetups etc.

    I really can’t stand Instagram, I see some funny stuff but it’s 99.99% clickbait crap or idiots showing off how perfect their lives are (except it’s bullshit as it’s a polished snapshot of their very best moments), causes huge psychological damage, especially to young people. TikTok the same plus China. They can get in the sea.

  13. Firstly, nearly half of the internet traffic in 2022 came from bots and this was before world wide adoption of LLM which makes it even worse (more fake content, more fake users, more fake engagement).

    Secondly, the corporations will try to milk more and more those platforms making the products worse for actual users but better for shareholders (feeding more ads, trying to keep you more and more inside).

    So it should be clear for everyone that mainstream social media apps will sooner or later turn into complete useless dumpster fire. With the exception probably being the small exclusive online communities.

  20. I don’t think 7% of an entire country not using social media is enough to say that the country is “fed up” with it. 93% still use it, which is an overwhelming majority.

    However, ironically, I guess these low-IQ articles get the most clicks on social media.

  23. Personally, Reddit is the last cancer I have to cut out.

    7% is nothing though. Also, this survey was done online. I’m sure there a still several people who would not fill this out – Article actually says:

    So who actually knows? From personal experience, most adults I’ve met either say they have problematic social media use or would like to reduce/have reduced their use… I’d assume we swiss are generally aware of the problem, but don’t know what to do about it – especially when it comes to younger people.

  26. 7% is not a lot and i think it’s wrong to include Whatsapp since it’s mainly a messaging app.

    Also YouTube isn’t really a social media but more a streaming platform.

  27. Still using Whatsapp for basic chatting. Youtube for MyMechanics, the Hoof GP and instructional videos. Never used Insta, Snap & Co. Reddit is another beast. Overall, not yet fed up.

  28. 7% is about 600k people. In 2023, 500k Swiss were ages 80 and over. So it’s really about 1% of Swiss under 80 who don’t use social media. But hey, those cows don’t walk themselves.

  29. I use whatsapp (well… use, like 1-2 messages per week) and reddit. I might have some zombie profiles elsewhere which i might updated years ago.
