  1. *Read more from Bloomberg reporter Eric Roston:*

Human activity is imperiling eight of the planet’s critical life-support systems and seven of them have already passed into a danger zone, according to a massive review of Earth science conducted jointly by more than 60 researchers and published Wednesday in *The Lancet Planetary Health*.

Looking at necessities of a livable Earth — including the climate, freshwater systems, biodiversity and soil nutrients — the researchers find almost all have crossed crucial thresholds. 2. One corporation can potentially change to make up for thousands of people not changing to meet the scientific mandate these people have been telling us about for years. Fucking get the big businesses polluting and destroying earth boys. Litigation Inc

  3. I am fully confident that we are further past the doomsday line than even these types of reports can recognize, that our understanding of the consequences of a multi-system collapse is naïve and oversimple, and that this is the end.

We like narratives. Narratives make big things small and turn complex into simple. “Technological advancement will save us” is a narrative. “Climate change is a hoax” is another.

“We can still fix this” is now a third.

  4. The planet dosent give a hoot .. the inhabitants have the problem.

  5. We need moderation between oh shit it’s over we’re all fucked, and we can stop this.

I agree, in principle, we have overshot a lot, and the future doesn’t look like it’s going to be too bright. But the consequences of that sort of nihilism is that it lacks the context that – yes – actually – things can get worse.

We need action not to prevent, but to mitigate the even worse effects that come after.

  6. Could we just nudge the planetary orbit, we only need a little bit furth away to bring down temps. /s

  7. Let‘s have the moon permanently stick between 🌍 and ☀️

  8. Record breaking temperatures, extinctions, and shareholder profits, baby! Next up, record breaking resource wars and mass deaths!

  9. Feelsbadman, the anti climate change propaganda has won and now everybody will suffer for it, even the billionaires themselves.

  10. We have had a scientist say this for the last 20 years.

  11. It’s 90 seconds to midnight. This is the closet the clock has been to midnight since it was created *in 1947.*

  12. When I was a kid watching 90s superhero movies, one thing that never made sense to me was Superman’s origin story.. it never made sense how with all their advancements, they let their planet be destroyed…

I was so naive back then.

  13. We know.

Talk to the billionaires and the various ways they generate their profits.

  14. Just get out the Detroit V12 twin turbo rat rod 2-stroke diesel and roll coal all the way.

Fuck it we are done as a species.

  15. Cool so let’s invest in air conditioning companies!

    -probably ever politician on earth

  16. We had a couple 60°F days in February last year that would be normal if I was talking about California but I’m talking about Vermont. We got a third as much snow as we did just three winters ago. Two years ago it was unseasonably warm, we had a heat wave in November. Last winner it literally never got cold.

  17. Earth and life upon it have survived worse. The problem is what will happen to us.

  18. I read this and imagined earth not respecting mars’ boundaries and the other planets are also angry with earth. I only need this narrative to cheer me up from the dread.

  19. Hello? This would be the top news in any sane society. Upvote.

  20. people can’t even handle the mildest of protests in just stop oil and yet think somehow we are gonna do a viva la revolution behead billionaires coup LMFAO

face it you reading this right now are not going to change. u aren’t going to stop consuming and if by some miracle the goverment actually started banning shit you will start whining and complaining about authoritarianism and le 1984!!!!

  21. That’s what happens when nobody that could actually do something about gives a flying F.

  22. Reading revelations got me thinking
Been ready to die but I ain’t got no fucking patience
    You feel me?

  23. Doesn’t sound like a warning kinda thing, more like breaking news. But we know how the human animal works, if something doesn’t affect it, it will not change.

  24. Further proof that humans are not an intelligent species. Our eventual extinction will be deserved.

  25. Makes it sound like we broke planetary orbit are on track to pass Uranus.

  26. We know, it’s shitty and I don’t see that anything can be done at this point. It’s also worth mentioning that there’s no coming back from it either, once all of the easily harvested mineral resources are gone then we won’t be able to produce the energy needed to create renewables, so it’s a decline back to pre-industrial levels, but with a really awful climate and only the areas near the poles inhabitable.

Honestly it makes me wish I didn’t have kids.

  27. We have been warned about looming environmental catastrophe for decades now. Yet very little meaningful action is taken. Perhaps the general public has become so worn by these global headlines they are apathetic. Perhaps it is also time to make a public announcement on popular social media every time a plant or animal species goes extinct. Anything to get through that the 6th major extinction event is happening NOW, we are living through it. Even if we were to miraculously stop this insanity today we will already have suffered major biodiversity loss.

“The rapid loss of species we are seeing today is estimated by experts to be between 1,000 and 10,000 times higher than the *natural extinction rate*.”

  28. Turns out killing the planet isn’t illegal. Now if your music is to loud on the other hand… straight to jail.
