Do I understand that you have the right to ask for flexible working but there are no rights to it? If so what is the point of this law.

    If you meet the conditions (have been working for that employer for >6 months and have a kid below the age of 9 or a family member that needs aid due to a serious medical condition), then you can apply for flexible working arrangements.

    Your employer will have to reply to your request within a month and, if the request is denied, then they have to duly reason their decision. Presumably you can challenge their decision if it’s not duly reasoned. Non-compliance can land your employer a fine.
