Russia Covering Its Aircraft In Tires Is About Befuddling Image-Matching Seekers U.S. Military Confirms. Russia’s efforts to confuse munitions with seekers with imaging-matching capabilities speak to issues that go beyond the war in Ukraine.

And like cope cages, based on a half-witted assessment of adversary capability with predictably comical results.
It must be fun scrambling the jets and having to remove all the tires first. Not to mention trying to not run over the random tires on the runway.
old news, we have seen those pictures for more than a year
A funny thing about tires is that if you can manage to get them to start burning, it’s really hard to get them to stop burning.
A funny things about airplanes, is that nearly all of them are made out of aluminum, which permanently loses structural strength at around 390° F / 200°C
If you get those tires burning, the airplane is a total loss. Maybe Ukraine could get some thermite drones into Russian airports?
Somewhat cyberpunk.
Low tech vs AI.
This seems like a simple fix lol.
Like generate an ai image of different planes and jets with tires on their wings, save, upload, update, done.
I saw this one on Tailspin, it’s to insults the plane from Lightning Guns.
Just reprogram the YOLO models to include aircraft with tires on them.
Just retrain the YOLO models to include aircraft with tires on them.
Maybe its only a simple try for protection against drone attacs ?
While the “tire on wings” tactic might perplex AI-trained software, the article seems to overstate its effectiveness and the sophistication behind it.
Firstly, no weapon systems in Ukraine are utilizing AI for targeting. Western technology in use is typically 10 to 20 years old—too outdated to leverage AI—and newer technologies, like drones, are manually targeted.
Secondly, using a white tarp with a black circle or other geometric shapes would likely be just as effective, if not more so, and far simpler, and you can easily change the tarp to create ongoing confusion. The use of actual tires, whether with or without rims, to obscure satellite imagery seems impractical. Besides the effort required to place and remove them before each flight, this method could hinder an urgent departure in the event of a drone attack.
It seems the primary purpose of using tires is likely for physical protection from small payload drone, with only a theoretical benefit in confusing AI pattern recognition.
A for the painting on the ground (plane or submarine), this is mainly to create some confusion when doing visual targeting for drone attack.
Those tires are begging to be hit by a napalm equipped drone.
