NATO could have done more to stop Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Stoltenberg says

  1. NATO is not involved as Ukraine is not a member. Nato allied countries are sending aid separate from NATO.

But even if NATO made threats, pootin would not have believed they would get involved and would have ignored them.

Just to clarify, NATO is not involved in any way in this war. Separate countries are helping Ukraine, THE EU is helping as an entity, but doing so without it being controlled or authorised with NATO.

  2. In the days of Eisenhower and Kennedy, NATO tanks would roll right up to the border facing the Russian forces. making it clear that any invasion would trigger a greater war. As in the past de-escalation followed.

  3. It’s not to late to change policy. Ukraine will welcome combined arms life-fire exercises by NATO troops in their Luhansk and Donbas oblasts. As Ukraine is a NATO-friendly nation there is no restriction on sharing experience and training together. Sweden and Finland used to cooperate just as well without their membership?

  4. It’s still not too late to make amends, instead of offering words. But no

  5. He can start by talking to his hunting buddy, Større. To get Norway to increase military spending. A ‘ski jump’ plan that ramps up in next electoral cycle is not enough. Then he can get Større’s gouvernment to fund more weapon deliveries to Ukraine, like procuring surplus F16 from US and train Ukrainian pilots. Norway is earning a shit-ton selling gas to Europe. There is no excuse. Even the Netherlands contribute far more. Signed, a frustrated Norwegian .

  6. What blows my mind is that the US NSC was arm flapping about the invasion for a pretty long time, but when it happened, they didn’t have a fucking plan!? Really!?

  7. If they didn’t help Georgia, they definetly weren’t gonna help Ukraine. Nato wants to be seen as a mega transformer army but yet they flinch every time Putin farts

  8. Amazing how slow and afraid the West has been of Russia, and still it continous! “Must not escalate, must not threaten Russia”. The escalations since 2014 has been by Russia only, no one else. Hungary and Slovakia want no support for Ukraine, they want a negotiated peace with Russia. So let Hungary and Slovakia secede land and ultimately membership in Nato and EU. Furthermore, it is incomprehensible how a country like Hungary cannot support Ukraine and how they believe in negotiations, especially when having been invaded by Russia in 1956 themselves, and also when their government at the time was invited to Moscow for negotiations, the russians executed the hungarians. The current hungarian goverment is clearly cowardly and dim headed, and hopefully they will be replaced in their next general election in 2026. Do they not know what the rest of the world knows, that Russia will never honour any negotiated agreement?

  9. So could have Ukraine…. Why is everything blamed on a defense alliance Ukraine isn’t a part of?

  10. US was bound by treaty to defend Ukraine for it giving up its nukes.

  11. Groundbreaking research from the No Shit department at Fuckin Obviously Military Institute

  12. Shoulda, Coulda, Woulda…. Shut up and do more now. Speed delivery of weapons, cut the red tape and delays!

  13. Would have, should have, didn’t. Learn from mistakes then move on. What needs to be done now?

  14. NATO was created to combat Soviet and now Russian aggression and it’s done a piss poor job of that as of late. What’s the point of having an alliance of the alliance won’t stand up against the bully when he’s bullying potential future members trying to intimidate them into not joining. It seems squarely within the realm of the alliance’s responsibility.

  15. Then DO IT NOW. I don’t understand what the fucking problem is. Everyone just wants to pass the buck.

I heard a phrase today, better our money and weapons now than our sons and daughters I’m a few years time.

  16. Could have, would have, should have.

Now they say this and still hold them back

  17. Well… it’s still not too late to go all in on this. Every country still has the opportunity to show the rest of the world that you are a good NATO partner and provide Ukraine with as much military support as possible to defend Europe and democracy from invaders and terrorists. No matter the cost, every NATO member should demonstrate the rest of the world that we are united against war and terror, not only on paper!

  18. Would it be a problem for Zelenskyy to invite NATO army in Ukraine and have them sit between Russia and Ukraine border?

  19. It all went down hill after stupid Bush “saw his soul” (Putin’s soul) and Obama wanted a “reset” with Russia. We were on our way to becoming complacent like Germany before the full scale invasion.
