  1. The Hague A12 , 9/14/2024 , 12:20 – Around 100 supporters of the last generation are currently blocking the A12 motorway in The Hague together with Extinction Rebellion Netherlands. Several thousand people are standing, sitting, dancing and playing music on the A12 and protesting for the abolition of fossil subsidies in the Netherlands and thus against the wilful fueling of the climate catastrophe.

“It’s all at stake, it’s about our survival,” says Hannes Sommerkamp. The 17-year-old explains his protest: “I joined the protests in The Hague today because the fight for a socially just protection of our livelihoods is an international struggle. We must support each other to stand up for our survival and join forces.”

The blockade is part of the A12 occupation, which has been regularly held in The Hague for over a year.
takes place and recorded a large influx. Extinction Rebellion Netherlands has announced that it will spend the night on the A12 to increase the pressure on the government. In the Netherlands, the government is steering the climate catastrophe with up to 46 billion euros annually. Earlier estimates and government information allowed this figure to shrink to around 17 billion euros and thus disguised a more consistent climate policy for the population.

In advance, the police union ACP has announced that the police will not take action against the blockade. The police will ensure the safety of the people at the demonstration, but – contrary to demands from politics – will not clear the highway, but will allow people to exercise their fundamental right to freedom of assembly.

“We see how the rulers invest millions in coal, oil and gas every day and thus ignore all scientific facts!”, says 22-year-old Kristin Krüger. She participates in the blockade and explains: “We are no longer willing to accept this! We are resisting throughout Europe. This summer was the hottest ever measured
and yet the fossil madness is constantly being boosted and even subsidized with billions. This is absurd and dangerous!”

In Germany, too, several billions of euros of taxpayers’ money flow annually into the production and combustion of coal, oil and gas. From the 25. September, the last generation in Kassel will protest against the massive subsidization of Kassel-Calden airport. Like numerous other regional airports in Germany, it is artificially kept alive by being pumped full of taxpayers’ money – which in turn is missing for the urgently needed socially just transformation away from fossil fuels. Several hundred people will be from the 25th. September in Kassel and draw attention to this madness with disobedient gatherings and other creative and diverse protests.
