€10 bn capital expenditure, including €5 bn government subsidies from the German State.
Other major big chip factories projects in Europe.
Globalfoundries is about to finalize its participation in the extension of the Crolles plant with STMicroelectronics (€7.5 billion) in France.
STMicroelectronics will also expend production capacities in Italy.
Good 👍
Looks small! The building has to be at least… three times bigger than this!
In Germany, people will actually be smart enough and have the knowledge and work ethic to build both the plant and operate the manufacturing on site. In the US, the TSMC plant in Arizona only recently achieved production of lower quality chips, albeit at a level that exceeds production of those same lower complexity chips at TSMC facilities in Taiwan. Taiwanese engineers are critical to operations at TSMC USA, but I would hope to see that ASML and other knowledge bases can produce high quality chips and materials in Europe sooner than the same in the US. The education levels are just not the same. In Arizona they still think that working in a factory means coming home covered in grease and chicken feathers.
