This was being said 10 years ago and the numbers haven’t moved.
The SNP are pretending to have hope to keep the grifting going. They’ll be selling red caps soon.
Seems like a strange decision for the SNP to shift to the right considering the demographics in question. Firmly pro indy, but would take a lot of changes to have me voting SNP again.
> Times has found that support for independence remains at the same level since the 2014 vote at 45 per cent. According to the findings, backing for the union stands at 47 per cent with 8 per cent of voters unsure how they would vote.
Overall 45/(45+47) = 48.9% yes
The S*n are reporting it as 47.6% in (maybe – I’m on mobile) a separate poll here:
I’d like to know how many of that 63% would vote SNP. The separation between wanting Indy and voting SNP is growing AFAIK, and there’s a lot of aspects of the SNP that might put off younger folk.
Scot gov logic
Not old enough to be held responsible for battering someone until 25 but ok to vote for independence at 16
Weird then that they’ve put someone who is undoubtedly misaligned with the social views on the youth in the second highest position and a pale stale male in the top position.
Sure, by now, they have leaned that they cannot rely just on being “the party of independence” to get support and actually have to pass policies that will attract supporters outside the “independence at all costs” cohort? Partially will the greens flanking them on the left/progressive side and Alba soaking up the OAP Braveheart vote.
People’s politics often change as they grow up. Also the SNP failed to achieve independence in their pomp. It’s not happening any time soon with the mess they’ve been in over recent years.
That ol’ chestnut
In other words….
People grow out of it.
Uhhuh so this is for the next ref in 10/15 years yea
A reminder that sub-samples in an ordinary poll have significantly larger margins of error.
I really thought when I was voting in the referendum, that it was a once in a lifetime thing, that’s what Salmond said, wasn’t it?
Been hearing it since 2014. Despite now being almost a new generation of voters, the needle has barely shifted to Yes.
It’s a subsample of a poll, so the margin of error will be huge.
And the same age-gap was found 10 years ago – but never turned into the greater support for evidence that the SNP expected, as people changed their minds the older they got.
Basically, the SNP would not be wise to build a strategy around this.
Just another reminder to those looking to vote for the SNP that they cannot be arsed doing the hard work.
Grew up watching Alex salmond waste away the chance, and then watch the SNP, greens and “Alba” complain about basically what could be called domestic policies, hopefully not again if they ever want to give a referendum and the arguments about the right to hold one a serious shot again
No political movement has ever failed by counting on the votes of the young
