Sails just make economic sense – it’s becoming common again. But of course the marketing team will try and greenwash it.
Um, okay. They’re right that it’s ironic to create supposedly “low-carbon” fossil fuel infrastructure, but wind-powered commercial shipping is a major climate win, and I’m here to give the industry a couple of brownie points for effort. So, this one carries LNG–the next one will carry solar panels, wind turbines, batteries, heat pumps, surface water diversion infrastructure, electric vehicles etc.
Unless you’re the US, China or a petrostate (I’m including Russia at this point) there are so many economic and security disadvantages to relying on fossil fuels any more than is absolutely required
