Absolutely ridiculous if you ask me, unless the bikes *really* damage the stairs. The elevators are immensely slow, queues are already enormous in case one of the escalators are out of order.
Why isn’t there any mention of speed-bikes being able to use the waaslandtunnel? It has become local traffic only recently, and the speed limit was also lowered from 50 to 30 km/h. The only downsides I can think of are bad air quality in the tunnel, and dangerous in case of traffic jams to pass cars.
I wonder in what way they damage the escalators, is it because they can bang against the sides and scratch it or because people lose control of them while on the escalator? It can’t be the weight itself damaging the escalator because even though these bikes can be very heavy, the average person is still twice as heavy, but then why are only heavy bikes disallowed?
Wel benieuwd wat hieraan voorafging. Iemand die met fiets en al naar beneden viel en daarbij een aantal mensen meemaaide? Slapstick-gewijs wel een winner anders. Maar wat een vaag artikel, er staat niet eens bij hoe zwaar.
Up next: mensen met overgewicht mogen de roltrappen niet meer gebruiken. Mogelijk beschadigen ze die, en is er een risico dat bij valincidenten schade aan derden wordt toegebracht. Maar we zeggen niet hoeveel overgewicht /s
Afin, voor een lage bakfiets met lange wielbasis snap ik het nu nog wel want die raakt met de onderzijde de trap misschien, maar voor een gewoon model ligt het toch wat anders.
I mean, there is another tunnel for bikes. It’s further upstream, though, so depending from where you’re coming and where you’re going that might be a bit of a detour.
As for the tunnel in the article: those escalators are antique, I can definitely see why they want to preserve them as well as possible.
