I have been living in Poland for the last four years, and I work for a company here. I came legally, pay my taxes, and fulfill all my civic duties. I’ve never been involved in any conflict, not even over a bus seat or parking spot. I always speak highly of Poland, and I really love it here because I’ve made many friends. I’m also trying to learn Polish. It’s a long process, but I’m doing it out of love for this country.

Recently, I learned that some foreigners attacked Polish citizens, and as a result, some Polish citizens have taken matters into their own hands and started citizen patrols, which I believe is within their rights. The problem, however, is how they identify people. How do they know if someone is Colombian, Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, or Vietnamese? To them, we may all look the same.

I have plans on the weekends and weekdays to go out and live my normal life, but in our groups and at my company, we’ve been advised to be cautious, avoid going into the city, and stay at home. I want to know, is there a solution to this conflict? Is it going to be like this forever?
