I stayed in Valetta last week in number 86 (on the left highlighted in red).

My question is, what lies behind the door to number 87? Where is the living space?

Looking around Malta in general I’ve seen a lot of buildings which seem to have only space for one abode but have two entrances.

Any historical architects able to tell me about number 87?

  1. I stayed in a place like this. One door leads to a staircase and the house is from the 1st floor up. Other door was a 2 story place, but as it’s on a hill, you want down.

I’m guessing that is not exceptional.

  2. Not a historical architect, but usually there could be:
    – ground floor level space (imagine a rectangle behind the door and that could be the GF) could be anything, a store, a small studio
    – ground floor + underground. Many places in Valletta (and other localities) have underground space where the pavement would be above the living space

  3. ive seen small uninteresting doors that lead to villas with massive gardens in the back. something similar is happening here except without the gardens probably
