Kazakhstan’s tightrope between Russia, Ukraine and Europe | DW News

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is on a three-day visit to Central Asia with the aim of strengthening relations with countries in the region.
The first stop for Scholz has been Uzbekistan where on Sunday he signed a bilateral agreement on migration. This will faciliate the entry of skilled Uzbek workers to Germany. The chancellor is traveling to Kazakhstan today where he’ll attend a summit with the region’s five former Soviet republics.
The region is heavily influenced by Russia.

  5. The West gave Moscow everything it needed to be an influential centre for Central Asia (it built factories in Russia, built trade routes with Central Asia through Moscow, even distributed Hollywood films in Central Asia through Moscow). But Putin wanted to rein the West.

  7. Time to stop referring to former soviet republics as former soviet republic. Such narrative plays into russian hands. Or, alternatively, why refer to russia as former mongol country?

Evil industries are lobbying for their earning. you guessed it ( Gambing, Prostitution, tobacco, alcohol, Drugs..) basically what all prophets fought for.. Islam is the only fighter on that front.   12. Kazakhstan coexists peacefully with Russia. This TV channel should not make a documentary that incites the people of both countries to be divided. If Germany needs to do business, then talk about trade. Do not create political conflict.

Kazakhstan will never betray Russia no matter how they try to rock the boat, the main silent majority of the population in Kazakhstan is for Russia, and a small group of nationalists and pro-Westerners do not play a special role, they only create information noise. Kazakhs as a nation have too many ties with Russians. Russians are the second ethnic group in Kazakhstan historically.
