  1. If the RCC just dumped the celibacy rule, which has no biblical foundation AFAIK, they’d turn themselves around; as well as get a much healthier and rounded priesthood.

  2. One of the few jobs providing decent accommodation.

  3. Why anyone would knowingly sign up to be a part of an organisation that is as fucked as the Catholic Church is beyond me.

  4. After everything the church has done, these men are genuinely doing it for the right reasons, I would think.
    Good luck to them.

  5. What went wrong in their lives that they ended up doing that.

  6. It’s a good career. You could be pope in 12 years if you play your cards right.

  7. Some people say the Catholic Church is out of touch with young people, and I say good.

  8. If you want to meet priests your own age, listen in on the latest gossip, or simply have a bit of a laugh, then call Priest Chatback and speak to priests YOU want to know.

  9. Great job security.

I’m not entirely sure but I think if I was caught having sex with kids, my company wouldn’t just relocate me.

Hard to say for sure though, because it hasn’t happened thousands of times in my company like it has in the church.

  10. Considering some of the comments here if this was another religion as I think the mods may have closed this thread already.
Is it only ok to criticise the Catholic religion because it’s the majority? Or because of what religious orders following the faith have done in Ireland and other places, if so shouldn’t other religions be held to the same standards?

  11. Imagine going for a job where your employer literally states you’re not allowed get the ride. Think about it, it’s actually mental.

  12. I have to be honest, I have considered it. I don’t have a religious bone in my body but you get accommodation, and decent working conditions. All you have to do is go up on stage a couple of times a week and read the script.

    Free wine too.

  13. I don’t think you could make a title piss off your average r/ireland user than this one lmfao.

  14. They will have a lot of souls to save!

  16. They forget to mention that most leave after one year

    Also 15 hearing the ” call”for q population of 5million …hmmmm not great .

    That’s 1 per 233 parishes …God’s call is sparse

  17. Congratulations to these men, who’ve found something they are passionate about. I wish them all the best in their studies and hope they bring a fresh face and new life to communities up and down the country in the coming years

    God bless them

  18. I did a photography job for an order of monks about 10 years ago as part of their recruitment drive. I asked the client how it went a couple of months later. He said it was great…they got 2 enquiries!

  19. It’s 21 😂

I know it’s almost impossible to talk about religion earnestly here, but. I do wonder if there will be some sort of”Catholic revival” in the coming decades in Ireland.
