I am from the US and just recently booked accommodation at st Anton through the official website https://www.stantonamarlberg.com/en/accommodation/accommodations
I have not paid anything yet for my reservation, however, a 40% deposit is due in 5 days via bank account transfer.
The confirmation email I received outlines the bank account details of the landlord to transfer the deposit to.
I have never seen this anywhere in the US for booking accommodation and it seems a bit sketchy.
Is this normal to pay via bank account transfer in Austria?

Yes, bank account transfers are common and not necessary a red flag. It feels a little old fashioned for an online booking, but in general, people regularly pay bills or transfer money this way. For you it might be an unusual hassle, but for the locals it’s safe and convenient.
Enjoy your holiday, but don’t expect all places to accept (all) credit cards!
