Michaela Mabinty DePrince, a trailblazer and inspiration to many in the ballet world, has died at 29.

DePrince went from being an orphan in war-torn Sierra Leone to performing with Beyoncé. A spokesperson announced her death on her Instagram page on Friday, saying: ‘Her life was one defined by grace, purpose, and strength.’ No cause of death has yet been reported

  31. As a movement artist myself – sometimes it feels like the public prefers a tragic death that they can mourn over, instead of appreciating a joyful, healthy, thriving artist do their thing. I long for the day that the public takes accountability for the misery that THEY project onto artists. Dancers have to live relatively healthy lifestyles in order to do what they do, so early deaths are not normal
