Why taxing ‘unhealthy foods’ doesn’t work | The Daily T Podcast

4.3 million people could be out of work due to ill health by the end of this Parliament, ushering in an era of “disease and bankruptcy” for Britain, according to a new report from The Institute for Public Policy Research.

Camilla and Kamal look at the report’s recommendations, including higher taxes on unhealthy foods, and ask if more nanny statism will really drag the country out of a health and economic crisis.

  1. Bag of pasta, tinned tomatoes, 2 cloves of garlic, and some basil leaves, with some cheese on top. meal for under £1.50 takes 10 mins feeds 4. Yep, all low income working class people eat crap, how patronising

  2. Not everybody has that kind of stuff available and knowing how tired I used to be it was nice to just be able to throw a pizza in the oven

  3. Shes so condescending and giving people their excuse. She goes from one extreme (pizza) to a full roast.

    I realise shes arguing against junk food tax, but where are the messages telling people how they can prepare (batch cooking for example )

    In her example dad can prep before work !

  4. 😂 because it does work. That is their intent, to tax the low income. They cannot tax outright but can do it via taxing tobacco, unhealthy foods, etc..
