  1. For an airport that is already struggling to attract both airlines and customers, this is an… ermm, interesting move.

  2. Surely they should be focusing on making Cardiff airport less shit not more shit

  3. Finally removing the one advantage it had over Bristol Airport

  4. I’ve lived in Cardiff for over three years and flown for work and holidays on around 10 occasions in that time.

Only once have I used Cardiff airport. It never seems to have the flights I’m interested in and Bristol’s airport isn’t much harder to get to.

  5. *Rhoose Airport

Honestly the worst place they could have picked to build it, without proper rail links.

It’s quicker and more convenient to fly from Bristol if you live in South Wales.

  6. It’s part of the long term strategy to rebrand and make money as a shit car park rather than a very shit airport.

  7. Guarantee that managers are sitting in their own arrogant funk saying to each other ‘here’s a quick win, and everyone else is doing it, it’ll make us look great for our next review, we’ll introduce charging for drop off and pick ups! We are genius!’

Meanwhile potential customers: ‘but your airport is shit and doesn’t work for anyone, can’t you fix that bit before making it less attractive?’

  8. I’m sure the 5 people who use this airport will be very sad at this news.

  9. I used it this summer for a Greek holiday. Doesn’t fill you with confidence when the giant map on the wall has Corfu and Kos the wrong way round.

  10. I will ask my in-laws to fly in to Bristol next time they visit. This is really getting out of hand.

  11. A decision made in the interests of profit rather than passengers.

  12. I work right next to the airport, and some days I’ve actually seen some people going to the airport and getting on planes. I’ve even heard one or two aeroplanes taking off and landing.
I reckon that there are more flight simulator landings at cardiff that actual real ones.

  13. For this to make any money they first need to encourage people to use CWL, maybe by have flights that operate from there.

  14. Another great example of the backward thinking at the airport, that has resulted in it needing constant bailouts.

Charging more to drop people off is another barrier to getting people in the airport. And renaming things to avoid confusion, when there was no confusion, actually causes confusion. People now have to think is car park 1 a long term or short term car park? Before it was obvious with zero confusion.

Does the management actually read these stupid ideas before they say yes? Do they read the press releases before hand and thank thats a great idea I will give my self a rise on the back of that one>

  15. Why is it always disincentivising than insentivising??

How about instead of introducing schemes to discourage driving, they introduce schemes to encourage using public transport.. i.e. intorducing something resembling an airport connection!!
The old T9 bus service was really good but still hasnt been restored after covid. The only public transport link now is a train (only one an hour), which requires a separate bus connection. It really is a joke that it is easier from Cardiff to get to Bristol Airport than to Cardiffs own airport!

This new scheme is just going to disinentivise using Cardif Airport even more.

  16. Which will raise about £4 as there’s no fucking flights from it, an embarrassing airport.

  17. Next a congestion charge and bicycle lane on the runway.- Welsh Labour.
