While Ukraine’s progress in the Kursk region has been slower than in some other areas, it has been no less effective. Ukrainian forces have maintained a steady advance, strategically outmaneuvering Russian troops who have struggled to regroup and mount a coherent defense. According to Popovich, the AFU’s tactical operations are designed to minimize casualties while maximizing territorial gains, even if the pace is not as rapid as some observers might expect.

“The situation for Ukrainian forces in Kursk is far better than that of the Russians. Even though the pace of their advance is slower, they continue to make progress,” Popovich emphasized. He also mentioned that Ukraine’s ability to frustrate Russian attempts at a counteroffensive speaks volumes about the effectiveness of its military strategy.

As the situation deteriorates for Russian forces on the ground, the panic is beginning to spill over into the broader public. Prominent Z-blogger and pro-Russian patriot Yuri Evich, who resides in the occupied Donetsk region, has been stirring fears among Russian civilians, particularly in the western regions. In a recent blog post, Evich claimed that the AFU is preparing for another large-scale offensive on Russian soil.

“The situation at the front is far worse than it was in 2022. The Russian public just doesn’t know it yet,” Evich stated, expressing frustration at what he sees as the civilian population’s indifference to the conflict. “We are fighting against 52 countries, and yet our citizens act as if the war doesn’t concern them at all. The coming Ukrainian offensive will be far larger than the one near Izyum and will likely surpass what happened recently in Kursk,” he warned.

Evich’s stark warnings included advice for civilians in Russia’s western regions, particularly in Kursk and Belgorod, to begin preparing for evacuation. He urged them to pack “go-bags” with essential documents, money, and personal belongings and to have their cars ready for a quick escape. “I recommend having everything packed and ready to go. Fill your tanks, keep your ears open, and be prepared to leave if the situation worsens,” he advised.
