  1. People like her don’t stand for shit. They just don’t wanna ruffle any feathers while they try to get as rich and famous as possible.

  2. The both sides thing is honestly even annoying on smaller scale things. It’s like if you have two prisoners and they’re both In jail but one is for stealing an atm machine and another is for rape and murder are those two equal? Just because they’re both prisoners in the same prison

  3. People are so obsessed with taking Chappell down lately. She says don’t vote Trump. She says she’ll vote Kamala. She says pay attention and vote small (republicans have been paying attention and voting small for ages, which is why they’ve taken over school boards, banned queer books, and been able to enact disturbing bathroom anti transgender policies).

It’s like people want to ignore all the good points she makes just to shit on her. So pathetic.

  4. I can guess what she is *trying* to say, but as a 43 year old woman, I have to side with George. Even if you are disillusioned with both sides, disengagement surely isn’t the answer.

  5. She never said both sides are the same; she said both sides have problems. Surely that’s something everyone can agree with.

  6. He’s right to call her out on it. All political parties have issues, but to act like Democrats and Republicans are anything but opposites these days is absurd. You don’t get people raiding your national capitol over minor differences.

  7. I think the Pod Save America guys summed up the Chappell Roan conversation pretty succinctly. She is an example of the kind of young left-leaning voter who gets their news primarily from TikTok, and as such she has a pretty skewed understanding of the Democrats’ actual positions and gives no acknowledgment of the tightrope that the Dems have to walk keeping all of the members of their extremely broad coalition happy. I think that she sounds naïve, but I don’t think that we need to dump a lot of hate on her.

  8. She did not say both sides are the same. She said she would vote for Kamala but not endorse her as she disagrees with the current administrations take on the actions of Isreal. She also does not think their record on lgbtq rights is exactly stellar.

She did not say it would be the same under Trump and indeed suggested it would be much worse.

It is fine to be able to criticise the side you will vote for rather than blindly going in and trying to make out everything they do us good.

  9. She didn’t say both sides are the same though, her statement was a critique on the dems not actually doing enough for marginalized people. Not putting her name behind something she doesn’t fully believe in should be seen as normal behavior.

  10. I’m not surprised she’s being so dismissive about everything, she comes from an extremely republican family and even has a fucking SENATOR UNCLE

  11. Her real sin is trying to stay out of the fight, while also claiming she cares a lot about, like, trans rights for example. Taylor swift stood up and said, “This is what’s right. Come at me.” And the trumpers have been losing their minds. Chappell invoked the phrase “both sides,” effectively meaning she is *not* in the fight. So, she’s a fraud, basically.

  12. Wait, she didn’t say “both sides are the same” m which I think is a problematic statement. But she did say “both sides have problems” which is objectively true. And it also sounds like she thinks voting for Kamala is the practical choice as like “good enough“ but not “she’s a perfect candidate that I 100% agree on” which is apparently what she thinks an endorsement would mean.

But you know what else, you should listen to Michelle Obama‘s speech again from the DNC where she scolds democrats that just when something isn’t perfext, you don’t need to burn it down. Chappel Roan basically did this by saying Kamala isn’t perfect for me but I’m voting for her anyway. But now the media is piling on by suggesting that because Chappel’s opinion isnt perfect (to them) that we should burn her down?

This is why I think the CR outrage is actually a false flag propaganda op at this stage because there is literally no reason for her opinions to have ignited this much organic outrage.

  13. I really don’t understand how people don’t realize “there’s problems on both sides” is different than saying “both sides are the same.” If you actually want to criticize her, do it using the words she said instead of a quote that lacks the mind amount of nuance her statement had. She’s voting for Harris, and she encouraged people to vote ballot, which is extremely important.
It’s just ironic to see so many commenters not even using her quote to criticize her while claiming she’s an ignorant dipshit. Support doesn’t have to be unequivocal. Criticism of the Democratic party isn’t inherently equal to support for fascism. You can be against trump and vocally ask for more from the democratic party.

  14. She deserves all the heat. We’re inches away from facism, and she has the nerve to whine about both sides.

I’m also a lot further left than Harris, but democracy is on the line and we can’t afford to have these naive influencers drive votes from Harris because they don’t like 1-2 of their policies. The alternative is hell, no woman’s rights, no LGBTQ rights. We’re facing Christo-facism, and Naive, edgy artists who have a ton of influence over the Tik-Tok generation would rather make edgy points than drive votes towards a party who will keep minorities, and marginalized people safe.

  15. “I’m taking sides by not taking a side.”

She’s naive, whiny and arrogant, and could learn a thing or two about power from Taylor Swift. Swift educated herself on the issues and spoke up when it mattered.

If her true stance is “both sides,” no one cares and she looks like a fool.

  16. She’s gay and she’s saying this shit? She’s an idiot. I agree with many of her stances but no, absolutely not. I read somewhere her uncle is some far right state politico too. She’s more steeped in the Missouri stupidity than she thinks.

  17. She didn’t actually say that but clickbait is gonna clickbait

  18. She didn’t actually say both sides are the same but that won’t stop freaks from attacking one of the most left leaning pop stars.

  19. Hey, I know this might sound crazy to some people. But here’s an idea.

Maybe people should have the right to voice their own opinions even if these opinions are different than yours? How about that?

And when they do, perhaps you shouldn’t start attacking them for it. What do you think? Is that really a far fetched idea?

Or the ideal way of living to you is where everyone is the same, thinks the same, says the same things using the same words. Personally that sounds like a horrifying picture.

  20. Sulu is right one this one. They are not the same.

The options are so stark, that even Dick Cheney (the Darth Vader of the Republican empire), says he is voting for the Democrats(Rebel Alliance)

If he can’t stomach the side he has spent his career professionally supporting… it may be time to re-evaluate.

  21. I love Chappell. I hate the circular firing squad on the left.

We unfortunately have a two party system and democrats suck but republicans are horrifying.

I was just arguing with Chappelle fans who want Harris to speak out more on trans rights.

Trans people make up about 1% of voters, in this climate it would be election suicide to bring up trans rights.

One party however legalized gay marriage, one party wants to define marriage biblically and destroy women’s and LGBT rights.

It’s ok to say you’re frustrated with the lack of progress on the left it’s not ok to pull the both sides shit.

  22. I understand. The right want nothing more than to erase human rights of all people and turn us into a dictatorship. It’s hard to make sense of the idea they are the same when that explicitly won’t happen in the alternative scenario

  23. Does anyone look to an uneducated 26 year old from the Midwest for political influence? I wouldn’t trust that Chappell Roan could tell me what color socks to wear on a given day.

  24. Funny how I didn’t read this article just like I didn’t read the one about Roan either.

  25. Since that isn’t what she said, this “controversy” is just publicists scrambling to leech some clicks.
