Hey everyone,

I’m currently renting an apartment in Norway, and there’s an attic door in the hallway that’s not entirely closed. Since it’s getting colder these days, the partially opened door is causing some issues with drafts.

The problem is, my landlord told me that the key for the attic door lock was lost by the previous tenants. I took a picture of the lock, and it looks like it requires some sort of hex (?) key, but I’m not 100% sure.

Does anyone know where I can find a key or tool to open this type of lock? Also I’m not entirely sure what exactly to ask for. Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

  1. Looks pretty standard. Bring the picture to a hardware store like Maxbo, obs bygg etc or a larger locksmith like certego.

  2. Half inch or 1/4 inch I suppose, not easy to see just based on the photo. Extension for a wrench might fit there.

  3. If you have a flat screwdriver that fits you can use that

  4. You would usually call this ‘firkantnøkkel’ in Norwegian. I don’t think it comes in a standard size so you should measure how many millimeters it should be. In this case it would be: ‘utvendig firkantnøkkel’ (since you want a protruding square). You should find it in a store that has a large selection of hardware goods such as Jula or Biltema.

  5. You can get a t-nøkkel at Biltema, but you can also use the square shaped rod that holds most doorhandles together.
