I really liked Fagioli last Saturday, he was occupying that space of the field where we dont like to play and distributing the ball very fluidly. I wonder if Manu can do the same, hopefully.
I’m amazed at this guy.
He’s not the cerberus in the midfield like Thuram.
He doesn’t have Buddha levels of calmness under pressure like Luiz does.
He doesn’t have the field vision of Fagioli.
Yet somehow, this guy who is principally just a pure mass of chaotic energy, seems to be starting ahead of these three.
Mystery, I tell you.
Was saying this when it looked like Motta was coming and his renewal was in flux.
Weston fits the Mottaball bill very well. Runs a ton, decent defender, one touch oriented, decent header, and makes incisive late runs in the box.
Literally none of our other midfielders do all of this even if Douglas is a better ball carrier, Loca is a better passer, and Kephren is a better ball winner
Weston is like the Mario (thinking of Mario kart etc) of the midfield. Does everything decently, not a standout on any one trait. But has no big weaknesses other than sometimes fitness.
He’s also on a prove it contract year which is additional motivation none of the other midfielders have.
That said, I think Douglas quality is showing more and more. Once he gets an assist or goal, Motta will struggle to keep him on the bench.
We made it back again. We are at the point where we have a player like Luiz on the bench. That’s something!
I think the internal competition inside the midfield is amazing, also pushing all the players to do better.
They all know if they are not in their top game they wont play
If nothing else, the mindset of mckennie has to be insane to keep pushing no matter the set back.
Elevating the competition around him. Americans like Puli are doing the same!
Westing is good and can play even like a winger
Douglas luiz is too slow, Only play good with protection
So why we wasted 52 millions for Luiz if he doesn’t play? We could have spent that money for Calafiori

Fuck it. If he earns the spot he earns the spot. Other players will have to fight and adapt their mentality to beat him and get the spot. Loving it.
Like usual mckennie’s mentality, work rate, and chemistry with the team wins over the manager a day him a spot. Because he is not any more technically gifted than ANY of these players. In this system and the last players like mckennie who run and are decent in transition come up on top.
