When medieval Europe woke from its Latin slumber, Galician was one of the first European languages in which literature was made. Trobador poetry dominated every court in Iberia and beyond. Listen to the same song by Polish singer Paulina Ceremużyńska and Galician singer Xosé Quintas-Canellas.

  1. You can read the original poem as well as many, many, many more medieval Galician-Portuguese poems [here](https://cantigas.fcsh.unl.pt/cantiga.asp?cdcant=666&pv=sim).

Here is a map showing where the Galician-Portuguese trobadors came from. Sometimes it is doubtful, because for some poets, we only know the name. As you can see, most poets came from Galicia and the Entre Douro e Minho region of northern Portugal. Portugal was already an independent kingdom.
