‘Crazy’ tree planter greening Sao Paulo concrete jungle • FRANCE 24 English

In just over two decades, Brazilian Helio da Silva has single-handedly planted about 40,000 trees in the urban jungle that is Sao Paulo. The former food industry executive says he was called “crazy” when he started his quest to transform what used to be a hangout for drug users between two busy avenues. Today, there stands the Tiquatira Park with thousands of trees of 160 species stretched over 3.2 kilometers (two miles) long and 100 meters (328 feet) wide.

  1. Hello fellow country people… Plant as many damn trees as possible. Also allow vegetables to go to seed.. that’s magical not Hollyweird…..

  2. Yess yess! Finland is all forest and lakes . Each tree has been planted by Finnish citizens, citizens of a small arctic nation where the snow cover the landscape every year . They love to save the world without beiing heroes.

  3. Where I live, you need permission to plant trees in urban areas and take care of them for life. I'll check if there's a way to plant without needing licenses, etc. Wonderful work by this sir. 🌳🌳🌳

  4. You tell me how a city just lets a man plant 40k trees? It speaks more about the lack of service or care about the city from the officials.

  5. Imagine… 1 man did this. If every citizen only planter 10trees we wouldnt even have all the problems in the first place

  6. Eco Infill, as I like to call this, is existential to stopping climate change. A natural landscape, or one with most biome properties, shapes and defines regional climate. Kill the land, pave it over or sterilize it with industrial agriculture and you kill our climate. Giant farms force the population onto marginal land or into forest, which depletes and erodes soil fertility, the stuff that processes water, co2 and recycles nutrients, while they are driven to destitution.
