  1. Fish and chips are overpriced, it’s not like anyone is eating this daily. We don’t need a healthy option at the chip shop and nobody would buy it anyway. The fruit and veg would spoil before it sold and chip shops will be forced to further increase their prices

  2. The laundry list of jobsworth officials in that article all trying to prevent the opening of a single chippy is a microcosm of everything that’s wrong with Britain.

  3. There is a Costa coffee in my local hospital and that isn’t exactly a health food shop.

  4. > NHS bosses want chippy to sell fruit and veg

    Potatoes are vegetables.

  5. NHS boss is completely out of touch with how real life works

    What a shock

  6. How about we let private businesses sell what they want and then we buy from the ones that offer us what we want instead of stipulating what should and shouldn’t be sold?

  7. I remember my school canteen (pre Jamie Oliver) had a fruit bowl. If you got a payback card, a good one was throwing the fruit all out on the Friday when it had gone brown. One time a sixth former brought an apple to the till and they let her have it for free as they had no idea how to ring it up.

So yeah, basically having it there isn’t going to help. Nobody is buying fish and chips because they didn’t have an apple present at the chippy.

  8. I know the food at the chippy isn’t healthy. It’s why it’s a treat

It’s not like I eat that stuff for every meal

  9. If the locals aren’t buying fruit and veg from the available shops/supermarkets, what fucking chance is there of them buying fruit and veg from a fucking chipper

  10. And yet we wonder why our economy is stagnating. This kind of thing is playing out all over the country.

  11. Why do NHS bosses even exist honestly I’m interested to what insight a business and leadership graduate has in running a healthcare business ? How can someone understand the way it works if you have never worked in it before

  12. I think Halfords should sell fruit and veg as well. I’ll have 2 litres of 5W40, a new set of windscreen wipers and a pineapple please

  13. My chippy sells salad, you just have to order a kebab to go with it

  14. Yet, our MP wants more NHS bosses OVER more nurses on the shop floor. Christ. 🫣

  15. Even if I wanted an apple. why would I buy one from a place that feels and smells greasy? The idea of buying fresh fruit in a place that has an almost taste able aura of fryer oil sounds grim.

  16. Welsh government and wacky pointless policies, name a better duo.

  17. And nobody will buy it.

I go to the chippy for fish and chips not my groceries!

  18. As a permanent resident I have 3 other shops in reach of the Fish and Chip shop which can and do sell fruit and veg. And are even open later than our chippy is.

Its not going to change what people order in there, even in tourist areas there are local convenience stores and supermarkets in reach.

  19. Pickled onion, pickled gherkin, mushy peas, potatoes . Sounds balanced to me.

  20. How about we instead encourage veg markets in towns and on streets?

  21. Like chips (potato) and mushy peas aren’t already veg? I guess more of them could do banana fritters to get the fruit up.

  22. “Can I get a large cod, large portion of chips and one of your deep fried battered apples please”

  23. Yep battered Veg

.it’s called Tempura..very nice ! Sweet chilli sauce on the side

  24. Fruit and veg? That’ll not be bought and thrown away? What the hell are these mindless bureaucrats smoking?

In the whole history of people going to Chippys only one person has ever asked for fruit or veg. And they were banned and run out the town.

  25. How does one land a 6 figure jobsworth position in a council to make stupid decisions and not be held accountable? Sounds like a dream job.

  26. Since when has a private business got anything to do with the NHS?

  27. My local chippy already does salads. They come with the kebabs.

Can’t say I feel noticeably healthier after one of those than after fish and chips though.
