It was Britain who always consider Russia their strategic foe even after the Cold War ended and Britain had lost their position as a world power. Britain was very much involved through MI6 in both Chechnya wars and more recently very much involved with the US in creating and escalating the Ukrainian conflict to weaken Russia as we now know from declassified US foreign policy documents.
