  1. It highlights some pop song lyrics that present themselves as intense and serious, but the actual words are rediculous.

“Someone left my cake out in the rain, and I…don’t…think that I can take it, cause it took so long to bake it, and I’ll never have that recipe agaaaaaaaain, oh noooooo.”

  2. I am in my 40’s and was shown this by my parents and my kids have also seen it.

With no context for listeners I can be guilty of a random “Paradiiiiiiiiiiise”

  3. I think it’s because the audience heard Broccoli and thought he was going to pivot to his George Bush Sr. impression, so it got an initial reaction and then it immediately subverted the expectation so it was funnier.

  4. My mom loved this and would always quote it when I was a kid. I’m 40.

  5. Pretty sure he did the skit before he was on the show. It might’ve even been his audition.

  6. Broccoli was me, broccoli was you, broccoli was the world.

  7. “Chopping broccoli” was code for smoking weed when I was a teenager.

  8. Because👏Phil👏Hartman👏is 👏in👏it.

  9. With the current hairstyle favored by teen influencer & high school boys, I find myself singing this whenever I see them. I also call them Broccolini when there’s a bunch of them in a group…

  10. He did some other song on the skit. Something about new beginnings…

  11. I sing this every time my wife asks me to chop broccoli

  12. I never knew it was a sketch, I remember it from his standup.

  13. Sigourney Weavers face during that skit just made it even funnier
