Water firms to pay customers back £158m

Water companies have been ordered by the regulator to pay almost £160 million in penalties after missing key targets on reducing pollution, leaks and supply interruptions.

But most customers will only see their bills fall by a few pounds – while they’re set to rise by an average of 21% over the next 5 years.

  1. So the govt gets the tax on £160 million pounds, then the tax on the 20% increase on water bills, then give other companies tens of millions of pounds to clean up the water systems they allowed to degrade and get taxes back on that too… 😂

  2. lock of the directors for negligance.. take it out of their pocket so we can stop encouraging evil people from putting the shareholder ahead of the nation!.. is tory youtube removiong my suggestion??

  3. With failures this big , the regulator should be forcing a fix on pricing not an increase over 5 years, so they can clean up there act than pay there shareholder or fat cat salaries deals , targets and repairs first it’s getting a joke with substandard repairs failing days after being repaired road side

  4. Great that’s our bills going up by ooooo I dunno a collective 158 million 🙄 just take it off them bring it back into public ownership and stop running it for profit

  5. Keep increasing the population.

Then complain when the sewage system overflows into our rivers!

    It’s called cause and effect!

  6. Just a few weeks ago they were found to have deliberately avoided reporting sewage dumping to overcharge the public by £1.5billion, so somehow I don't think they're gonna mind much about £158m.

Changing company structures or other nonsense tweaks around the edges are never gonna solve the fundamental issue that running water (and other vital public services) for profit only ever incentivises higher bills, more sewage dumping, and lower investment in infrastructure and maintenence. The only solution is renationalisation, but only the Green Party will do that.

  7. This is poor because customers are getting a refund of £3.00 and bills are going up 21%. They could have added what 21% of an average bill was in monetary terms.

  8. Don't be mislead, for these corrupt companies are going to raise your bills big time in the coming years, its a con with the governments help, funny though with the massive immigration with they also would be adding to the corrupt water coffers, its all a scam of deceit and lies.

  9. This will be passed over to the customer to pay , private companies only benefit they dont lose , elec, gas and water should be in the hand of the government and not companies who charge people extortionate amount

  10. Total corruption, doesn’t come anywhere near the profits they’ve made from dumping sewage into our waters and polluting them all. This government is a disgrace

  11. "How many of Sir Keir Starmer’s 10 pledges still stand?

Plans to nationalise railways, Royal Mail, energy companies and water companies have been scrapped"
