Dozens of Su-34 fighters were destroyed: F-16s began hunting Russian aircrafts that bombed Ukraine

Russia has lost another Su-34 fighter jet. It was reportedly shot down by an American F-16 that was handed over to Ukraine, which became the basis for attacks on Washington and aid to Kiev.

The National Interest writes that at least three dozen Su-34s have already been destroyed during the war with Ukraine, which is almost a quarter of the Russian Federation’s pre-war fleet of 140 aircraft. It is noted that combat losses outpace production.

“Russia is on the offensive in Ukraine, but this incident can be seen as a major setback because the Su-34s are the aircraft that Russia uses to destroy Ukrainian infrastructure,” explains geopolitical analyst Irina Tsukerman, president of Scarab Rising.

It is noteworthy that the news of the loss of the Russian plane immediately appeared on social networks – and from the accounts of pro-Kremlin mibloggers who regularly report on the progress of the war on Telegram. They are critical of the military actions, even if they demonstrate support for Vladimir Putin.

“These propagandists are trying to make Ukraine into a villain and thereby create anti-Ukrainian sentiment among their own population,” said Susan Campbell, a distinguished professor at the School of Communication at the University of New Haven.

Even when mibloggers mourn the loss of the Su-34 and criticize the conduct of military operations, this is also aimed at inciting anti-American sentiment, she said.

“The use of the F-16s here is important because pro-Kremlin propagandists are looking for any excuse to attack US aid to Ukraine, and to prove that Ukraine is just a proxy for the CIA/MI6 etc., who are directly attacking Russia with their equipment,” Zuckerman suggested. “It’s another way to discredit NATO and support their conspiracy theories that the Alliance has been plotting to attack or invade Russia all along. It’s also a good way to spin the failure and the fact that Russian air superiority has now been effectively weakened.”

Even despite criticism of Russia’s military leadership, the message that NATO poses a serious threat remains in force.

“The spirit of these posts from pro-Kremlin bloggers is clearly intended to highlight the dangers of NATO and the possibility of future such attacks, perhaps as a justification for new and more serious airstrikes in Ukraine – or even a potential justification for taking provocative action against NATO,” Zuckerman concluded.

  1. It is the third thumbnail that suggests that F16s shot down MULTIPLE SU-34s. But actually it was ONE SINGLE S34 that was shot down by F16, all other casualties happened way earlier (and not by F16s). All this clickbait content is very annoying.

  3. May we point out that the plural of aircraft is also aircraft. It is not aircrafts. One of those quaint English words that defies logic unless you are a professor of English.

  7. For those not aware: "The F-16 was built under an unusual agreement creating a consortium between the United States and four NATO countries: Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands and Norway. These countries jointly produced with the United States an initial 348 F-16s for their air forces."

  8. The F-16s were NOT donated by the United States. They were donated by EU countries that have replaced them with NEW fighter aircraft for their own Air Forces. Those countries, such as the Netherlands, have been using them for years, and are replacing them with F-35s and other 5th Generation aircraft, thus freeing up the F-16s for Ukraine.

Not an American F-16 😂 the US government has been working hard against European build F-16 on a US license, the only thing the US have to do with the F-16 in Ukraine is they own the license rights, they would never help Ukraine that much, but some of the missiles used might be American built I don’t know about where all of them, but there are no plans for any US build F-16 to Ukraine at all we had to sell more than half of our F-16 to Argentina to stop Chinese exports to South America to get Kamala Harris approval for giving 19 F-16 to Ukraine when pilots are ready

  24. But weren't. They arre part of the EU's donations and support of Ukraine. The US, Canada and other NATO countries have been transferring USED, OBSOLETE, and time-expired equipment and ammunition to Ukraine for years, using the allocated money to purchase NEW equipment to replace the old, donated equipment….it gets spent within the US and other DONOR countries, NOT "given" to Ukraine.

    little info : most european F16 have their own setups … that's why, it takes time to update

  27. Dozens? Nice sensationalist title – please don't imply that F-16s were responsible. The latest loss is SPECULATED to be by an F-16, and it's from a Russian source.
