  1. Interest rates are likely to be cut just once this year, economists have predicted, in anticipation of inflation rising to close to 3 per cent later this year.

    Of five economists polled by i, all five suggested the base rate, which has a major impact on household’s mortgage costs, will be cut once in 2024, with the next being delayed until next year.

    The Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) will meet on 7 November when it is widely expected it will cut interest rates from 5 per cent to 4.75 per cent.
