It would fit so nicely as a Swiss canton, and fill the hole between Ticino and Valais/Wallis. The southern border of this Italian province are filled with mountains (see second image) except a small strip between the two lakes (Lago Maggiore and Lago d'Orta), so it would be perfect for a natural border

Every time I see a map of Switzerland, I think, why is there a hole there, why did the Swiss never fill it. It would also be awesome to have direct Swiss trains from Geneva to Lugano via Simplon-Domodossola-Locarno

  1. Image description: the Italian province of Ossola which would nicely fit as a Swiss canton, and fill in the gap between Ticino and Valais/Wallis

  2. I think both suggestions are good, I don’t quite see the connection, but I like the energy of this post.

  3. I’d rather have a canton with seafront, if we were to add one from our southern neighbours.

  4. Just no. Nice nature and everything, but the amount of money it would take to bring up the whole infrastructure to Swiss standard (roads, railways, houses,…) would be massive. If we should’ve expanded, we should’ve taken the Voralberg.

  5. It would cost us a fortune, being in the mountains and structurally weak.

    I take Sardinia for 50.

  6. Don’t worry. The project to assimilate every country of the world in Switzerland is on schedule.

  7. OK, let’s take them, Savoie, and Bavaria… should we stop there, or is there any one else? Franche Comté? Tellaria?

  8. Funnily enough there was a war to annex Ossola in the past, the Swiss lost and the place of the battle is still marked as a historical viewpoint.
I’m pretty sure the inhabitants now wish their ancestors didn’t fight so hard
