Is this one of those situations where we used to have magnesium mines but we shut them all down because we were getting it so cheaply from Culhina?

Most aluminium alloys use magnesium.
And aluminium alloys are used in a lot of things.
Is jobs really the top issue here? Important, sure, but being unable to manufacture various products seems like it might have a much bigger knock-on effect.. eg laptops.
