Donald Trump serves up french fries at McDonald’s in Pennsylvania

Donald Trump spent one of the final Sundays of the election cycle working the fry cooker at a Pennsylvania branch of McDonald’s – the latest bizarre moment in a campaign that has increasingly become a tour of personal vendettas and aimless grudges, despite his aides’ best efforts to keep him on track.

The Republican presidential nominee is known for his love of the fast-food franchise but has become obsessed with the fact that his Democratic opponent Kamala Harris worked in one of its restaurants when she was a student, a detail he griped about during his stunt appearance in Lower Southampton.

CBS News has meanwhile hit back at the former president over his repeated false claims that its show 60 Minutes edited its recent interview with Harris to make her answers appear more favorable.

In a statement, the show insisted its episodes are cut to be “clear, accurate and on point” and never “deceitful” and reiterated its offer to Trump to sit down for his own Q&A after he backed out of an initial agreement to appear.

Harris meanwhile spent the weekend celebrating her 60th birthday while Trump raised eyebrows with a crude anecdote about golfer Arnold Palmer’s manhood.

Elon Musk offers voters $1m to sign PAC petition. Can that be legal?

The Trump-supporting tech billionaire is pledging to give away $1m to voters in the key swing state of Pennsylvania for signing his political action committee’s petition backing the Constitution.

The giveaway is raising questions and alarms among some election experts who say it is a violation of the law to link a cash handout to signing a petition that also requires a person to be registered to vote.

Here’s the influential horror novelist Stephen King raising precisely that objection on Musk’s own social media platform yesterday…

…and here’s a deep-dive into the thorny legality of the gesture.

Trump raises eyebrows with crude anecdote about late golfer Arnold Palmer’s manhood

If you thought the McDonald’s shift was weird, try this one on for size.

The Republican – who is running for president of the United States, don’t forget – was speaking in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, on Saturday night, hometown of the legendary golfer Arnold Palmer, when he was moved to say of the local hero: “This is a guy that was all man.

“He took showers with the other pros, they came out of there, they said, ‘Oh my God, that’s unbelievable.’ I had to say it.

“I had to tell you the shower part because it’s true.”

But Donald Trump is definitely not weird, OK guys?

We’ll have more on the reaction to that eyebrow-raising remark shortly but, first up, here’s Katie Hawkinson’s report.

Harris spends 60th birthday preaching compassion to Black churchgoers as Trump unexpectedly reaches out

Kamala Harris spent Sunday, her 60th birthday, in the company of Black churchgoers at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Stonecrest, Georgia, where she read the parable of the Good Samaritan and urged her audience to sow compassion and respect in their daily lives and do more than just “preach the values”.

Unexpectedly, Donald Trump appears to have been listening, briefly putting aside election hostilities to wish her a happy birthday in the spirit of brotherhood.

Here’s more on the Democratic nominee’s trip to church.

CBS News finally hits back at Trump’s false 60 Minutes claims

The broadcaster has at last come back at the former president over his repeated false claims that its show 60 Minutes edited its recent interview with Kamala Harris to make her answers appear more favorable.

In a statement issued to another CBS program, Face the Nation, on Sunday morning, the network declared: “Former president Donald Trump is accusing 60 Minutes of deceitful editing of our October 7 interview with Vice President Kamala Harris. That is false.

“When we edit any interview, whether a politician, an athlete, or movie star, we strive to be clear, accurate and on point.

“The portion of her answer on 60 Minutes was more succinct, which allows time for other subjects in a wide ranging 21-minute-long segment.”

It also reiterated its offer to Trump to sit down for his own Q&A after he backed out of an initial agreement to appear.

“Our long-standing invitation to former president Trump remains open.

“If he would like to discuss the issues facing the nation and the Harris interview, we would be happy to have him on 60 Minutes.”

Here’s Io Dodds on Trump’s shifting excuses for ducking out of that session.

Watch: Trump attempts to troll Kamala Harris with McDonald’s stunt

Here’s our video report on the Republican’s surreal Sunday gig.

Donald Trump tries to troll Kama Harris by serving up fries at McDonald’s

Donald Trump tried to troll rival Kamala Harris as he served up french fries at a McDonald’s in Pennsylvania. The former US president staged an impromptu news conference, answering questions from journalists at the drive-thru window on Sunday (20 October). After an employee showed Trump how to dunk baskets of fries in the oil, the former president took his turn and even helped fill some takeout bags after a bit. Trump said: “It requires great expertise, actually, to do it right and to do it fast.” The visit came as he dug into his claim — one that’s spreading without offering evidence — that Harris never worked at the fast-food chain while in college.

Donald Trump serves up disturbing message with fries at Pennsylvania McDonald’s

Donald Trump spent one of the final Sundays of the election cycle working the fry cooker at a Pennsylvania branch of McDonald’s – the latest bizarre moment in a campaign that has increasingly become a tour of personal vendettas and aimless grudges, despite his aides’ best efforts to keep him on track.

The Republican presidential nominee is known for his love of the fast-food franchise but has become obsessed with the fact that his Democratic opponent Kamala Harris worked in one of its restaurants when she was a student, a detail he griped about during his stunt appearance in Lower Southampton.

The roughly hour-long photo opp closed down the branch in question entirely.

During the visit, Trump had an apron tied behind his back by a McDonald’s cashier before he recieved a short demonstration on how to work the fry station before sticking his head through the drive-thru window.

The former president proceeded to hand out a number of orders, chatting to supporters who were picking up their meals.

But as he took a question from a reporter through the window, Trump again resorted to baseless suggestions that the upcoming presidential election could be tainted by fraud, a charge he and running mate JD Vance have repeated about the 2020 vote.

“Will you accept the results of the election?” the journalist asked.

“Yeah, sure, if it’s a fair election,” came the ominious answer.

Here’s more on an odd afternoon from John Bowden.

Josh Shapiro calls on cops to look into Elon Musk’s $1 million giveaways in Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro said Sunday that Elon Musk’s plans to give $1 million to registered voters who sign his super PAC’s petition is “deeply concerning” and should be looked into by law enforcement.

“I think there are real questions with how he is spending money in this race, how the dark money is flowing, not just into Pennsylvania, but apparently now into the pockets of Pennsylvanians,” Shapiro said in an interview with NBC’s Kristen Welker on Meet the Press. “That is deeply concerning.”

“I think it’s something that law enforcement could take a look at,” he added. “I’m not the attorney general anymore of Pennsylvania. I’m the governor, but it does raise some serious questions.”
