Latvian Minister of Economics Viktor Valainis is confident the government will reach an agreement on future scenarios in negotiations with telecommunications companies LLC Tet an LLC Latvijas mobilais telefons (LMT) second shareholder – Telia.

After a meeting of the ruling coalition, Valainis reminded that the government is working on a report on results of negotiations with Tet and LMT shareholders.

Valainis explained the report will be as comprehensive as possible. “We plan to submit it to the government soon. This will provide a conceptual vision as to the direction we should follow,” said the minister.

“At that point, we will be able to explain in much more detail, reveal much more information about the data we have at our disposal, as well as involve the companies themselves in the development of future scenarios, as well as start a public debate on whether the chosen path is correct or whether any changes would be needed,” added Valainis.

The minister said he is confident the government will be able to establish a unified vision for the development of this issue.

He also added that it was possible to reach an agreement on solutions that meet the government’s established goal – “strengthen our role in these companies and achieve a clearly visible business development scenario to also ensure long-term competitiveness”.

It was previously reported that the government agreed on further scenarios in negotiations with the telecommunications company “Tet” and the other shareholder of LMT – “Telia” at a closed meeting on the 16th of July. The government instructed the Ministry of Economics to conduct these negotiations. Earlier, the TV3 program “Nekā personīga” reported that this year on the 11th of September, negotiations between the Latvian state and “Telia” about the future of LMT and “Tet” began in person.
