“The situation in several important cultural and historical buildings – the Latvian National Archives, the Museum of the History of Riga and Navigation – has been developing for years due to insufficient funding. Our priority is to provide all available support to address the pressing issues without delay and to ensure the preservation of the cultural heritage. At the same time, it is important to find the necessary funds for the development of new projects. Today’s budget reallocation will also allow us to move forward with the further implementation of the Riga Philharmonic project,” said Minister of Culture Agnese Lāce (Progressives).

Among the urgent and priority works that need funding later this year is the design work for the Riga Philharmonic (National Acoustic Concert Hall), for which the Government decided to allocate €737,354.

Three administrative premises of the Museum of the History of Riga and Navigation at 2 Palasta Street and 4 Herdera Square are in poor technical condition and should be put out of use until urgent repairs are completed. The Cabinet of Ministers reallocated funding of EUR 110,263 to carry out the repairs.

The National Library of Latvia receives €40,233, and the Cultural Information Systems Center €34,267. The Latvian National Symphony Orchestra was granted funding of €192,943 for its off-site activities.

€78,100 was allocated to improve the lighting and sound equipment of the Daugavpils Theater,  €397,959 to improve the study environment at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music, and €396,940 for the completion of the permanent exhibition of the Latvian National Museum of Literature and Music.
