The University of Luxembourg has appointed Professor Ralf Seppelt as the director of its new interdisciplinary centre for socio-environmental systems.

The Luxembourg Centre for Socio-Environmental Systems (LCSES) is a project focused on addressing key ecological, environmental, and sustainability challenges.

The centre will use methods such as modelling, simulation and artificial intelligence to conduct research in environmental science and sustainability, bringing together working groups from various different fields.

Seppelt, who will take up his new post on 1 March next year, currently leads the research unit “Ecosystems of the Future” at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) in Leipzig, Germany, overseeing a team of 100 researchers.
