BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – In the past two weeks, we have reported on two different recalls from Hyundai and Honda.
The latest Honda recall involves 700,000 vehicles at risk of catching fire.
Professor Alina Sorescu with the Mays Business School at Texas A&M told KBTX there are two different kinds of recalls: Voluntary and involuntary.
“The company can take a look at the warranty claims that are being filed, or maybe just repairs in their dealerships, and conclude that there‘s a pattern. They‘re essentially just trying to avoid more serious accidents happening. Alternatively, you can have what is called ’an involuntary,’ or when the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration can say, ‘we’ve noticed a pattern,’ and issues a recall,” Sorescu explained.
Sorescu’s advice to stay aware and keep up to date is to check in often on the warranty of the product you purchase.
“Whenever you purchase something, whether it’s a toaster or a car, make sure that it’s registered. The manufacturer will reach out to you if that registration is active,” added Sorescu.
