Scrapping free tests will open UK to new variants, scientists say

  1. Boris has said COVID is beaten, gone and not to worry, who are we to disagree? He can do no wrong, the Tory faithful believe he shits rainbows.

  2. I think they should keep the tests free. It’s not so so much money, and I’d think cancelling the mandatory isolation if positive, but letting the more careful people that still are concerned to take the tests for free, would be a reasonable compromise.

  3. We need to keep testing, and if you are sick you should isolate until you feel better. If you go to work with covid for what ever reason I’ve seen how fast it takes down an office. I’d like to imagine businesses will adapt their policy to ensure that this doesn’t happen but we know most
Of the time this isn’t the case.

I’d also like to assume people wouldn’t just ignore advice once it’s not law and go into work with covid anyway. We all know that’s not the case and people will. Unless there’s hard defined rules like this people throw caution to the wind.

Remove all restrictions if you want, keeping only testing and the need to isolate if positive is not a huge ask. This will help in the long run and they can reevaluate it again in future. These simple measures are not restrictive.

  4. No it won’t.
Not isolating when you’re sick and passing the virus on will open the UK to new variants.

I have covis and am pcr positive just now but lft negative.

    Lft tests are useless.

  5. I’m stocking up while I still can. At best I have a good supply of free tests, at worst I have lots of extras to use while travelling/working…

  6. We had testing when Omicron hit. How did testing stop Omicron, or Delta, or Alpha for that matter? Testing has become an addition for some, for others it’s watching the daily numbers. Time to go cold turkey.

  7. I can’t see why the Govt. does not seem to understand that the next variant could be far worse than before.
