What if, the people who may have had votes cast in their name are now dead, or can’t remember because of the medical issues that facilitated the need?
Seems a tiny bit nebulous to try and investigate this 2 years down the line. Why not sooner
Bring back the voting machines
Did anyone else read the headline as electrical fraud?
It wouldn’t be a good thing if we lose faith in the election process. So it’s good to see alleged fraud investigated.
But I remember during the last election people here were saying things like they’d seen ballot boxes being left unattended, or not being transported by Gardai. And they got a lot of downvotes and abuse for it.
If my calculations are correct, the increase in the number of postal votes used in 2020 compared to 2016 is about 230 votes, give or take.
There’s still a chance that they could all be legitimate. Maybe there was an increase in students not wanting to travel? Maybe there was a campaign to educate people to make use of the entitlement to a postal vote?
I see a mention of votes applied for and cast in someone’s name without their knowledge though and it would be interesting to hear a figure in relation to them. How do you prove who cast those votes though? As someone says above, the disability that led to the entitlement may also lead to an inability to prove either way.
stop the steal
I hope this has been 2 years in the works and they’re not getting around to it only now. Is the system so weak as to potentially allow for this type of fraud, even hypothetically?
