Lovely Poldark is seeking his Forever Family

  1. Why am I waiting so long?

My name is Poldark and I will be two years old on Thursday, February 24th. What a lovely birthday present it would be if I were to get a family to call my very own.

Since coming to the shelter, nobody has wanted me. I am sad because I see the other dogs arriving, and then going away with very happy smiling people. I try to look very cute so that they will see me, but people just walk past, like as if I am not even here. Some days I feel quite hopeless, but then the volunteers cheer me up by telling me that they love me, and that I am their favourite dog at the shelter. This is nice to hear, but at the end of the day I still end up sleeping all alone in my dark kennel, with its concrete floor, with no special human to stroke my head, or rub my belly, with no nice fireside to lie beside, with only dreams of what it might be like to have a family and a home.

I am a blue greyhound, and I’m told that blue greyhounds are rare so I am something special. Apparently I wasn’t much good at coursing, but you should see me running into the couch in the kitchen to make myself as comfortable as possible as quickly as possible.
The volunteers here say that I will be the best pet ever, and that whoever gets me will be very lucky. I am a big boy but I have a great ability as making myself small on the couch. I am very gentle on the lead when you take me walking.

What kind of a pet is a greyhound, I hear you ask?
We make super pets! Believe it or not, we don’t like to spend all day running. In fact the opposite is the truth, we are lazy, easy going dogs, who really only want maybe two short walks of about 20 minutes each and than are more content to sleep somewhere warm and comfortable for the rest of the day. We love to find a sunny spot, and will sometimes follow a ray of sun as it moves around the room just so that we can bask in it’s heat for as long as possible. We are very good at telling you what we want…I bet you didn’t know that we can talk. Greyhounds communicate with you by whining. Whining to be let in, to eat, to play, to get up on the bed — you name it and we’ll talk (whine) to you about it.

Although we’re considered large dogs, we’re usually unobtrusive and polite. … we have virtually no “doggy” odor, even when wet. We have short hair and shed very little.
We are a sensitive breed who prefers peace and quiet and soft-spoken people. We do not do well in an environment with chronic tension or loud voices.
Most of us are politely reserved with strangers, and prefer to lean against our owner’s leg rather than approaching people we don’t know.

We prefer not to share our homes with cats, furry animals, or small dogs, and I will be happiest not sharing my home with another dog.
If you would like to know more about me please click on the link below, otherwise please share to help me find a home, as I am becoming sad, lonely and shut down at the shelter.

  2. My short girl and long boy here would not get on unfortunately, he’s a beautiful goof. I hope he’ll be off to a beautiful home soon.

  3. If it was up to me I’d have like 66 rescue dogs. Unfortunately I live in an apartment and I have space for only one giant fur baby. I hope he’ll find the perfect family.
