>The coach service operator Megabus has announced it is cutting its routes across England and Wales.
>Demand for its services has failed to meet pre-pandemic levels – despite the operator offering fares for as little as £1.
>It will continue to operate its routes in Scotland as well as all cross-border services between Scotland, England and Wales, reports Route One.
>The Falcon route between Bristol and Plymouth will also continue unchanged but all other operations in England and Wales will cease from December 4.
>Anglo-Scottish and Anglo-Welsh routes will still provide links within England and Wales, including between Newcastle, Leeds, Sheffield and London, between Manchester, Birmingham and London, and between Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol and Cardiff.
That’s incredibly confusingly written. Are they cancelling everything or nothing?
Please never link to the Metro again. I clicked on the link, it popped up saying I couldn’t view the page unless I disabled my adblocker. I paused it for that page to try and find a list of routes and my PC had a heart attack. And I still didn’t find a list of routes.
Are they struggling financially? I needed to go between 2 cities a few weeks back and wasn’t able to see any tickets even though I know they do (or use to) services between the two
The last time I used a Megabus (because no way was I paying £62 for a one way train journey from Nottingham to London), I stood for two hours at the Finchley Road stop (possibly the worst site for a bus stop for a major coach company in all of Europe) waiting for a bus that turned out to have broken down, and the first time it was one and a half hours of waiting around. Have they ‘suspended’ them already just by having them not show up?
That’s a shame, Megabus was the only way I could reasonably get to London to see my girlfriend back in the day

Ah the other day I was looking for Christmas trips from London to Sheffield and it was only showing two coaches for all the days. This explains it.
I miss the days they did the mega train. Cheap train tickets. Once got from London to Sheffield For 3 quid
parent company went bankrupt: [https://www.businessinsider.com/megabus-coach-bankrupt-bus-industry-transportation-routes-2024-10](https://www.businessinsider.com/megabus-coach-bankrupt-bus-industry-transportation-routes-2024-10)
Dara O’brien has finally got his revenge on Megabus over all those jokes on Mock the Week.
I’m a lorry driver who was driving through lockdown. Seeing a Megabus running from Glasgow to London going down the M6 for the first time was one of the first signs that normality was returning.
I used to travel on the megabus frequently between Bradford/Leeds to London when I first started my career. Was well priced on a starter salary and saved me from long drives back and forth on my own. Was a life saver to be able to see my family on weekends.
Then the M1/M6 smart motorway upgrades started and the routes went to 50mph and those journeys felt like they were taking a millennia to complete.
Started driving back and forth between Manchester and London after that when I moved to a new position.
I was considering coaches as alternatives to trains but they’ve taken away rest stops on the journeys to London I was looking at, despite it being 3.5-5.5 hours, which was a real turn off.
Like, surely they are aware they are competing with the train which has much nicer toilets available, and cars with nice motorway service stations.
Penny wise pound foolish perhaps
I’ve abandoned Megabus for the most part for Flixbus (usually cheaper) & National Express (pay in 3)
When I was at uni they used to give the tickets as codes. But after buying a couple I noticed the codes were based on your destination, date, time etc. so for the next 6-months I rode for free 😂
Surely they don’t actually provide many if any journeys at a pound a pop nowadays though?
Damn, I remember once I used a Megabus to get from the south coast to Yorkshire for like £3.
“The Falcon route between Bristol and Plymouth will also continue unchanged but all other operations in England and Wales will cease from December 4.”
That sounds like they’re cancelling nearly everything for England and Wales? That’s a shame, it’s the only economical option unless you want to be violated by a train fare
