Amen. Working people go to – or take part in – the act of working for a living.
I’m amazed this is suddenly controversial. Next you’ll be telling me that the landed gentry living off inherited family wealth are working people too.
I mean you’d be stupid not to diversify your income.
I love the way the media are trying to make it seem like we should be outraged with what he said. Almost like there rich owners want to kick up a fuss.
Reminder that everyone gets 20 grand a year allowance in stocks ISAs.
The average person won’t need more than that.
If you have a pension it’s most likely making money in shares
This is getting tedious now. There is no good reason why people who receive UNEARNED income should pay substantially less tax on that income than those who have to work for their money.

When Sunak was PM , despite his huge wealth , he paid proportionally less tax than the average working man. Surely, these people should be grateful for their privileged position and just chip in a bit more.
That’s right. They make it from…working.
The actual context was when asked about people who make their income EXCLUSIVELY from shares and assets. Nothing to do with Bob from the pub owning some shares in Rolls Royce.
Well duh??
Is this something that people DIDNT KNOW?
If they ever want to retire it is time to start putting some money into shares and I hope the government will make strong incentives for that
I guess a lot of Redditors won’t remember the 1970s when the top rate of “unearned income” was taxed by Labour at 98%. The 1970s were not a great time.
There was a reason that a lot of people hid their cash under the mattress.
Winter of discontent anyone?
If this bothers you it’s because you are rich
One thing I can say about the UK, it really buys in to the Russian press gang. Watching this never ending slew of nonsense is just hilarious.
The ignorance is astounding.
The coneheads in the daily mail comments are absolutely losing their shit over this.
It a disingenuous statement. The bulk of pensioners income comes from, try and guess, pensions. Pensions are funds which comprise stocks. So screwing with stock market affects everyone, it’s a matter of when, not if. Even if pension funds excluded from what we policy motivated this discussion, they will be affected indirectly.
Err pensions? Isas
Tax people with “passive incomes” it’s a vague term but it’s fair.
Wasn’t Sunak making fucking millions just on the shares he owned? What value or help does that bring to our society and country? Absolutely fuck all.

Pensions?
Working people are too busy trying to pay their bills and keep a roof over their families to worry about dabbling in shares.
Tell Sid, he’s fucked me up.
Crabs in the bucket mentality everywhere on this sub
Every member of WSB would agree.
How about hit Amazon etc with a tax? Too many companies making huge profit without paying a fair amount on tax in the uk
The rate he’s going, we won’t be able to make anything at all!
He wants to revive UK stock markets but also penalise those who invest their already-taxed money. It’s a bold strategy. Let’s see if it pays off.
Dividends are used by some people to escape working income tax rates. I support that aspect of a clampdown.
The perfect society: all citizens must work 9-5, 40 hours a week, for 50 years and retire at 70.
Not optional.
Utopia. A beautiful vision for the future. The goal to which our great nation should aspire.
💀💀💀
Wait, rare based Kier?
I mean… He’s not wrong though is he? I’ve been working since I was 16 and the largest amount of money I’ve managed to save would have done fuck all in shares because I eventually needed it.
Man makes statement of obvious fact.
Right wing goes off on one.
More at ten.
Bankers think they do real work
