I saw the double cross from Slovakia’s flag and curious about its meaning.

Also there are other countries that use the double cross as well like Lithuania 🇱🇹

Vytis, the Lithuanian Coat of Arms also has the double cross. It’s intriguing to know both Slovakia & Lithuania have the double cross despite not having historical ties.

  1. The double cross in Slovakia comes from the Byzantine Empire in the 9th century. St. Cyril and St. Methodius, co-patrons of Slovakia, brought it to Great Moravia (the predecessor of Slovakia). The godson of King Svatopluk of Great Moravia, King Zwentibold of Lorraine, brought it to Lorraine and the double cross became a symbol there as well.
