Investigation as cat killed and others 'severely beaten' over two day period in Carrickfergus – Belfast Live

A cat has been killed and others injured following a spate of attacks in the Carrickfergus area over a two day period.

Police have launched an investigation following the attacks on the animals in th Eden area of the Co Antrim town, saying that a number of cats have been severely beaten and one has been killed.

Local vets have told officers that the injuries have been inflicted by humans.

Carrick Castle UUP Councillor Bethany Ferris has condemned the attacks on social media and warned pet owners to kept their cats indoors at nighttime in the Eden area for their safety.

She said: "I'm disgusted to hear reports of brutal attacks on cats in the Eden area. Local vets have reported advised the injuries have been inflicted by humans. Any information or witnesses please report to 101,quote serial reference number 1213 of 26/10/24.

"For our cats' safety, he is now being kept indoors at nighttime as we live in the Eden area. I can't imagine what goes through anyone's mind to hurt and kill such treasured family pets."

Police are asking for anyone with any information regarding the attacks to contact them and believe that the attacks have been inflicted by humans.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Police are appealing for information or witnesses to reported attacks on cats last week in the Eden area of Carrickfergus. A number of cats in the area have been severely beaten and one being killed in the span of two days. Local vets reportedly advised that these injuries had been inflicted by humans.

"If you have any information in relation to this, please call 101 and quote serial reference number 1213 of 26/10/24. Thank you."

  7. That is disgusting!😡🤬 This is 1 of the reason I don’t let my cats out as people have so much hate for cats!!! It’s simple if you don’t like them don’t go near them, clearly a psychopath that gets a buzz of hurting a defenseless animal, this is why I hate most people!!!

  12. When they find whoever it is, they need to be jailed for a very long time! If I saw someone intentionally hurt an animal in this way I think I’d actually cause serious harm to them, I am not a violent person, quite the opposite, but these ‘people’ are bottom of the barrel, it’s actually sick, if they are able to do this to an animal, they are a massive danger to all!

  16. It’s not particularly easy to lure a cat towards a stranger so there’s real intent.Hopefully there’s going to be some camera footage to incriminate the lunatic who’s doing this.
