ARLINGTON, Va. (7News) — Early voting is set to begin in D.C. on Monday — the last in the DMV to allow voting in-person before Election Day.

Early voting centers in the District will be open between 8:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. through Sunday, Nov. 3. Vote-by-mail ballots and drop boxes have been active in the meantime.

The 7News 2024 Election guide has more details on early in-person voting guidelines in Virginia and Maryland, where early voting has been underway.

More than 2.2 million voters had cast their ballots early across the DMV, as of Thursday.

The final New York Times/Siena College Poll has Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump tied for the popular vote at 48% each.

“You cannot imagine a race much closer than this one this time,” Steve Farnsworth, PhD, a political science professor at the University of Mary Washington, told 7News. “The polls have consistently shown a very, very close race – not only nationally, but in those key swing states that will determine who wins the electoral college.”

“I think it’s very important to participate,” said Daniel Galvao of Arlington, who voted for the first time in the United States on Sunday after recently getting his citizenship.

“I’m originally from Brazil and voting is mandatory there,” Galvao added. “It’s a different approach here but I do think it’s very important. And if you don’t vote I don’t think you can complain much about what happens in the country.”

“It’s a little nerve-wracking, but I hope things turn out in a way that makes me excited for the next four years,” said Lara Malakoff of Arlington, who also voted early Sunday. “If they don’t, we’ll all keep trucking along.”
