Before the Great War almost one million Europeans left every year (in the period from 1907 to 1912). This map shows where they went.

  1. Note that this is a poster from the White Australia era. Until the early 1970s, only Europeans were allowed to immigrate to Australia.

Interesting that they also list it as “Britain, Ireland, and Europe” instead of just Europe heh

  2. The lucky Europeans that got out. We’ll probably see this again in the not so distant future as Europe declines.

  3. Nice to see that the racist rhetoric of evil black, brown and yellow people that should not be let in before anyone who is ”white” still exists.

  4. I think the Canadian one is overstated, because lots of those people either were just taking a boat to Canada en route to the US, or went to the US shortly thereafter. That was a super common thing when people couldn’t directly immigrate to the US.

I don’t think Canada ever had 1/3rd of the immigration as the US back then. If that were the case then Canada would not be 1/9th the population of the US today

  5. It’s guess today people don’t have a reason to run away anymore, newer immigrants in North America/Australia are usually from Asia
