The EU lashed out at Switzerland on Friday for not having sanctioned Russia in response to its invasion of Ukraine.
“This is the biggest threat to European security and stability since the end of the Second World War. And it affects not only Ukraine, it affects Europe — and it doesn’t mean European Union: it affects Europe. Switzerland is part of Europe,” European Commission spokesperson Peter Stano told media in Brussels.
“So we expect our partners, our neighbors, our ally, to follow suit in standing up for defending the principles on which our communities and our countries are based. Among those principles are respect for international rules, protection of democracy and solidarity,” he added.
Our government are cowards. I’m going tomorrow to one of the protests that’ll take place and I urge my fellow Swiss people to do the same.

No, The EU doesn’t treat Switzerland *as a partner as a neighbor and as an ally*. This is independent from Ukraine or the banking situation. I know this is technical for many here but as a swiss I can tell you that it’s not the case. Our bilateral agreements are about to reach their end of life and the EU is refusing to renew them. This is a huge problem for Switzerland as we have to choose between keeping out access to the single market and giving away our democratic rights, yep. We are being happily trampled by the EU because we are landlocked, the EU is blackmailing us into giving away out democratic rights. I cannot stress enough how this is a problem. This problem is a complete standalone one, and a very big one. So when they say “our ally”….. no, we’re not treated like allies by the EU.
Switzerland should have aligned itself with the sanctions. But Germany should have voted the full sanctions as well, and Italy should have done it as well. Don’t single out Switzerland!
You are talking to swiss banks. I don’t think that the swiss people love their banks. The last time I discussed with my bank I was treated like crap. So from my point of view the EU can pressure the swiss banks all they want, I don’t care, I rather enjoy it. We have secrecy but the banks use it to hide money from dictators. It should be used to protect the privacy of people but the banks have misused this tool. Go for it and hit Switzerland hard.

Any reasonable person would not defend Putin and his invasion of Ukraine. Before you bots reply with your prepared what about-ism templates about Afghanistan,etc., I also am against that. I do not want to see war happening in any parts of the world. After all, we all just want to live our life peacefully.
