> “Who is actually going to think about that?” Mescal said while mimicking removing a phone out of his pants pocket. “If someone actually attacked me, I’m not going to go ‘phone.’ ”
> Norton, 61, then pointed to an imaginary attacker and said, “Can you hold on a second?” while pretending to remove his phone from his own.
> “That’s a very good point,” Redmayne added, before Ronan chimed in, stating, “That’s what girls have to think about all the time.”
> The Little Women star then gestured towards the audience and asked, “Am I right, ladies?” which garnered a loud applause.
I’m a man and I think about using random stuff for self defense all the time.

One time I went for a walk alone, and I told my boyfriend how I wished I could spend more time away from my phone. He said “Why don’t you just leave your phone at home?”
I had to explain that I literally can’t because I have to worry about being stalked and assaulted every time I go for a walk alone and need it in case I have to call the cops.
That’s great. You can see her sort of tolerating the jokes and then pointing out to the men the reality of women’s day to day lives, the guys looking contrite and being all “yeah, good point.”
And men don’t understand why we can never have both headphones in, or not responding if someone catcalls us, or keeping pepper spray or a swiss army knife in our purses/bags, or having to walk around with keys sharp side pointed outward inbetween our fingers when its dark out with no light.
The list goes on and on…

Check out the emergency alarm features on your phone so you can trigger an alarm quickly. Some links:

Make sure you have these set up and know how to activate them. It speaks volumes that these guys didn’t even know or think about this. Thank you to Saoirse for making clear what is already obvious for about half of humanity to some members of the other helf.
Way to ruin a joke, Saoirse.
What’s next ? “They thought the same during the Holocaust”.
Jesus Christ.
I think she’s 100% right and I also think she 100% ruined their banter.
I watched the full episode and she killed a vibe a few times by being 100% serious while Paul Mescal and Eddie Redmayne mainly told jokes and stupid things in general – those 3 all friends, especially Saoirse and Paul so I’m not saying she was angry at them or whatever. I just thought she didn’t read that room well in general
As a man who is on the fitter side with combat sports experience, I carry a gun. All it takes is one guy who is better than you. My girlfriend is getting her permit, until then she carries a knife. The world is a nasty place
> “Saoirse Ronan is a queen. Men need a reminder what it’s like being a woman so they can appreciate their privilege. The silence after she said that speaks volumes,” wrote one person.
>“This encapsulates men being ignorant of male privilege in a nutshell,” shared another. “The fact that these guys – nice guys, mind – are just so unaware is almost terrifying. Thank goodness for Saoirse though because we all need a bit more attention drawn to this.”
He just said a phone was a bizarre thing to defend yourself with. Jesus fucking Christ, he did absolutely nothing wrong!
