Rape allegations ‘tip of the iceberg’ – Police Scotland boss

  1. Yeah, no shit. The number of times girl friends or girlfriends have told me in confidence about past experiences which range from sexual assault to full on rape is actually depressing.

I think there needs to be a better way for women to act legally rather than going to the police. I know the polis probably do their best in this situation but the sad fact is who wants to show up in court and relive an experience in front of a jury that fills you with fear, shame and guilt. Then be subject to cross examination?

    It sucks.

  2. While we can all agree sexual assault is unacceptable in every regard….you cannot sit there and deny that there is a large portion of women who now like to be spanked, hit, held down, gagged, choked, even beaten and much worse. I have heard women break up with men because they weren’t aggressive enough…we have arguably the biggest pop-star in the world saying ‘ I like a masculine man who will come in there and take it’

Now obviously these are consensual acts…but there is also a large portion of women, who do not appreciate any of these things done to them, the thought of them, or them even mentioned within their relationship, and if a man even tried it, she could argue it was assault or worse.

So how does a young man navigate relationships when he has one woman screaming to be choked beaten tied and gagged and spat on…and is splitting up with him because he is not aggressive enough…..and on the other hand the next partner claiming he threatened to sexual assault her when the idea of these is even mentioned.

You cannot tell me the dating market in this day and age is not getting more confusing and dangerous for young men…you just cannot.

  3. >*500 of the reported crimes happened over twelve months ago*

It takes some victims a long time to come forward because they lack faith in the system. The detection rates are low.

It’s a slightly self fulfilling prophecy, after all that time has passed lots of evidence is lost. Detecting the offence is going to be even harder, detection rates will remain low or drop further.

As an organisation Police Scotland needs to be upfront about this stuff.

A low detection rate doesn’t mean they aren’t taking it seriously or aren’t exhausting all lines of enquiry. It’s a crime type that by its nature is exceptionally difficult to detect.

Often there is only one witness and little to no corroborating evidence.
